· PhD in Chemical Engineering, The University of Newcastle, Australia. Title: ‘Influence of Nanoparticle & Surfactant Interactions on Foam Stability’’ (awarded 2009).
· BSc(Chemistry)/BE(Chemical Engineering) Hon. Class 1, The University of Newcastle, Australia (awarded 2005).

· General research interest in gas transport, hold-up and release in soft sediments and nuclear wastes, multiphase suspension and slurry processing, as well as interfacial colloidal and soft matter systems.
· Expert in ultrasonic instrumentation; development of x-ray CT to measure gas networks in waste sediments; particle & surfactant stabilised foams and emulsions; flotation; surfactant and polymer adsorption; suspension rheology & settling; flocculation & stability control; slurry/paste pumping; ellipsometry.
· Current or previous P-I or Co-I on ~£3.5M in active research funding from Innovate UK, EU Horizon 2020, EPSRC, BBSRC and direct industrial support: [e.g. EPSRC - TRANSCEND (£1.34M), UK-Korea (£330k + £370k); EU - ProPAT (£960k), IdB (£875k); Innovate UK – Nuc. Supply Chain (£440k); Sellafield Ltd direct – in situ Acoustic monitoring (>£500k)].
· Have active research collaborations with a number of industrial and commercial partners nationally, from high value chemicals, personal care, food and nuclear sectors.
· Sellafield Ltd’s ‘Sludge Centre of Expertise’ representative to interface between academia and the Sellafield operational/technical teams.
· Joint winner (with Sellafield Ltd) of the IChemE Core Chem. Eng. award in 2012.
· Finalist (with Sellafield Ltd) of the IChemE Research award in 2017.
· Supervisor for +15 PhD projects currently, in areas of colloid science; structure-property relationships of multiphase chemical products; novel acoustics; sediment transport & gas hold-up.
· Expert industrial consultant on multiphase engineering problems – mostly for nuclear industry.
· School Outreach officer – co-organiser for Nuclear Summer School, Inspire & Headstart programmes.
· Active international university collaborations with the University of Melbourne, University of Queensland KAIST, Korea and China University of Petroleum, Beijing.
· Lectures internationally at Xiamen-Beijing Universities as part of the Summer Energy School.
