Automation

About Program:

As an interdisciplinary program, Automation shares characteristics with a lot of disciplines and focuses on cultivating comprehensive talents by providing education of integrated and systematic of method and knowledge. Students of this program usually work as engineers, system analysts and designers in the area of industrial process control, electronic system control, automation instruments, computer measurement and control system and information system integration.

 

The university set up the undergraduate program of automation in 1959 as one of the earliest Automation program in China. In 2010, Automation program was awarded as Ministry of Education level University characteristic professionalism unit. Widely used in petroleum exploration, exploiting and oil refinery, the automation program has good industrial background and develops in a rapid pace. Serving the petroleum industry, this program wants to bring up high level talents for large scale petroleum process system with great complexity, meanwhile, cultivate automation professionals in other industrial areas. Now the main stream research area include: 1) advanced control theory and technology, 2) industrial process modeling, control and optimization, 3) intelligent control, 4) detection and soft measurement technology, 5) fault diagnosis and treatment in chemical process, 6) stimulation and analysis of dynamic work flown chemical process, 7) integration of process control and technology, 8) computer measurement and control system.

 

Objective:

Students who complete this undergraduate program will:

  1. Acquire broad professional knowledge of automation theory, electrical principles and engineering, computer control system, petroleum processing system, etc.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to carry out research, engineering design and field work of petroleum exploration and processing
  3. Use basic computer knowledge and professional software for solving instrument problems, and understand the general process of programming and software design.
  4. Require the capacity of mastering a foreign language, creativity and cooperation.

Graduation & Degree Requirements:

Students have to gain at least 177.5 credits to graduate, among which 98.5 credits from compulsory courses, 45 credits from selective courses and 34 credits from practice teaching. Students have to pass CET-4 to gain the Bachelor degree.

 

Degree Conferred: B. Eng

 

Career Prospects:

Most of graduates find jobs in petroleum companies such as Shell, Chevron, CNPC, Sinopec, and CNOOC, while some join professional high-tech and instrument companies. They could also work as researchers, designers and technical managers in research institutions. And some graduates enroll in high-level Master or Ph.D programs of in China or abroad.
