Measurement and Control Technology and Instrument


About Program:

As a newly emerging major, Measurement and Control Technology and Instrument is the combinational disciplines of Testing Technology, Automations, Precision Instrument, Optoelectronic Information, Analytic Instrument and so on. It involves mathematics, physics, auto control, computer science and many other areas.

 

While the petroleum industry continuously brings in higher technology, better automation system and stricter quality requirement, it is demanding more qualified professionals of Measurement and Control Technology and Instrument for support. Our program has the faculty resources from the department of Electronic Engineering, Exploration Geophysics and Well Logging. The educational system of this program is based on technologies of electronics, computer science, sensor, testing and control, and organized by modern measurement and control technology and instrument in oil and gas development process, which aims at cultivating high-level talents of testing technology, prospecting instrument design and application for petroleum industry.

 

Objective:

Students who complete this undergraduate program will:

  1. Acquire broad professional knowledge of measurement and controlling theory, telecommunication system and instruments design, etc.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to carry out research, electric circuit design and instrument engineering.
  3. Use computer knowledge and professional software for solving technical problems, and understand the process of instrument design and analysis.
  4. Require the capacity of mastering a foreign language, creativity and cooperation.

Graduation & Degree Requirements:

Students have to gain at least 175 credits to graduate, among which 99 credits from compulsory courses, 45 credits from selective courses and 41 credits from practice teaching. Students have to pass CET-4 to gain the Bachelor degree.

 

Degree Conferred: B. Eng

 

Career Prospects:

Most of graduates find jobs in oil or service companies such as Shell, Chevron, CNPC, Sinopec, CNOOC and Schlumberger, while some join high-tech companies or work for government department. They could also work as researchers, designers and technical managers in research institutions. And some graduates enroll in high-level Master or Ph.D programs of in China or abroad.
