 About Program:

The fast development of internet and cloud computation technology leads to the rapidly increasing demand for high level professionals in this area. For petroleum industry, information technology also plays an essentially supporting role as it is a crucial part for oil and gas prospecting technology.

 

China University of Petroleum (Beijing) set up the Department of Computer Science and Technology in 1996, and started the admission of undergraduate students of Computer Science and Technology in 1997. Students in this program are required to learn the basic theory, knowledge, skill and method of computer hardware, software and application systematically. The program values both knowledge in classroom and application skills in the field, and aims at training the creative thinking and practical ability of students to help them become a better information technician in Petroleum or other Industry.

 

Objective:

Students who complete this undergraduate program will:

  1. Acquire broad professional knowledge of computer science theory, programming principles, database system, etc.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to carry out research, system design and database analysis and processing.
  3. Use computer knowledge and professional software for solving technical problems, and understand the process of programming and software design.
  4. Require the capacity of mastering a foreign language, creativity and cooperation.

Graduation & Degree Requirements:

Students have to gain at least 173 credits to graduate, among which 90 credits from compulsory courses, 41 credits from selective courses and 42 credits from practice teaching. Students have to pass CET-4 to gain the Bachelor degree.

 

Degree Conferred: B. Eng

 

Career Prospects:

Most of graduates find computer related jobs in petroleum companies such as Shell, Chevron, CNPC, Sinopec, and CNOOC, while some join professional high-tech and internet service companies. They could also work as researchers, designers and technical managers in research institutions. And some graduates enroll in high-level Master or Ph.D programs of in China or abroad.
