l  State Key Laboratory of Petroleum Resources and Prospecting
The State Key Laboratory of Petroleum Resources and Prospecting (SKLPRP) traces its origins to a multi-disciplinary research center at China University of Petroleum-Beijing, which was set up by integrating the resources of the Key Laboratory of Oil and Gas Accumulation Mechanisms of Education Ministry and the CNPC Geophysics Key Laboratory in 2004. In 2007, it was given the final approval for its construction by Ministry of Science and Technology.
SKLPRP is made up of 67 permanent young and middle-aged researchers, which include one Academician of CAS, one Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, one state appointed distinguished expert, four holders of research grants for Outstanding Young Chinese Scientists, five distinguished professors of Cheung Kong Scholars Program of Education Ministry and three chief scientists for the “973” Program. Currently, SKL-PRP hosts two research groups, which are designated as “the Cheung Kong Scholars and Creative Teams for Original Research and Innovation” by Education Ministry. It offers 2 post-doctoral   fellow programs, 6 Ph.D. programs and 7 M.Sc. programs.
In the past 5 years, SKLPRP won 9 First and Second Class National Prizes for Science and Technology Advancement, 1 Award for Annual Top Ten Research Achievements by Chinese Universities, and 11 First and Second Class Province/Ministry-Ranked Prizes for Science and Technology Advancement. In addition, it has 1 winner whose Ph.D. Dissertation is among the Annual 100 Best Ones in China. SKLPRP has made a great contribution to the country’s social and economic developments. It hosts groups of preeminent scientists with interdisciplinary expertise.
Targeting the complex features of petroliferous basins in China and needs for advancing theories and developing technologies, we have designed and set up a number of sophisticated systems which are capable of simulating structural deformation, compaction-related diagenesis, and hydrocarbon generation-migration-accumulation as well as seismic acquisitions. SKLPRP is also equipped with numerous imported large high-precision devices. The self-developed simulation systems are integrated with the imported devices to constitute our unique experimental platform, which is build with a total funding of over 100 million RMB (about US$ 15 million). SKLPRP has a floor space of 5,150 m2. It has provided state of the art facilities for conducting cooperative multi-disciplinary researches in the area of petroleum resources and prospecting.
Following the principles of “Opening, Transfer, Co-operation and Competition”, SKLPRP is open to scientists from other institutions and has set up grants for co-operative researches. We warmly welcome scientists home and abroad to our laboratory to conduct joint researches.

Mission:
By focusing on the nation’s strategic needs, targeting the world science frontiers and solving fundamental scientific challenges hindering China’s petroleum exploration, we aim at these missions: to carry out inter-disciplinary co-operative research, to advance and improve the theories for formation and occurrence of complicated petroleum accumulations, to tackle the fundamental scientific problems involved in development of petroleum exploration technologies, and to train top-tier professionals. Our research teams conduct their research in five priority areas: (1) basin evolution and petroleum distribution, (2) petroleum accumulation mechanisms, (3) petroleum reservoir geophysics, (4) theories and technologies of oil and gas well drilling and (5) theories and techniques of borehole geophysics.

Research Areas and Experimental Platforms:
Following years of construction, SKLPRP now conducts high-level researches in five areas. A series of advanced equipment have been installed and some of them were invented and made by SKLPRP, such as the self-developed sophisticated simulation systems. These facilities provide adequate experimental capabilities to conduct researches in the five areas.

Director of Research:
Professor HAO Fang is the current director of SKLPRP.
Dr. JIA Chengzao, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), is the current chairman of the Academic Committee of SKLPRP.
Prof. WANG Tieguan and CHEN Yuntai, both Academicians of CAS, are the current deputy chairmen.
