Dr. Feng explained the current reading trends over the years in our university and the way digital content is taking over as the most utilized library material in recent years. He also said the library is devoting over 50% of it’s resources to acquiring access to more digital data s, digital libraries and journals to enable students keep up with the recent trends and developments in their fields.

Online resources both Chinese and Foreign like Geoscience world, Taylor, Wiley, Springer, Elsevier, CNKI, Wanfang etc were introduced and each of their specialization explained in detail. Students were advised on where to find dissertations, Academic Papers, Conference notes, Textbooks, patent literature other material in relation to their areas of interest.

The last part of Dr. Feng’s lecture comprised of the introduction of a search tool ‘YoYou Search’, developed by the library to aid students during their search for online resources and reduce the amount of time taken by students visiting different sites to access academic literature. The search tool was developed to search all materials (both soft and hard copy materials) that are available to students in the university . He gave an example of how to use the tool and how to optimize the search to give precise results and save time.

The final minutes of the lecture were dedicated to a Q&A session where students asked questions which were answered by Dr. Feng. He also encouraged students to follow the library’s official Wechat account where they can ask questions in future in case of any problem accessing any of the services offered by the library and they will be answered.
