Dean’s Message

Looking back through the last sixty years of trials and tribulations, twists and turns, China University of Petroleum (CUP) School of Business Administration has grown from the original department of industrial economics to the important training base of nation’s professionals and expertise in energy economy and management, the primary consultant institute of giant state-owned enterprise, and the essential think-tank for developing national energy policy. We have exported large amount of talents to our country. We also cherish our outstanding alumni, as well as the constantly emerging research achievements from all aspects.

In spite of the great achievements we’ve made in teaching and research, he glory belongs to the past. At present, we are confronting tremendous competitive pressure from outside. Many comprehensive universities quickly intervene in the field of energy-economy-environment (triple E) with their profound theoretical foundation and research capabilities, while posing a challenge to our strength in this area. Compared to top business schools from both domestic and abroad, there is still a long way to go in terms of management, faculty building, talents training and scientific research.

In order to adapt the current economic development dynamics and the new trend of higher education, we must seize the new opportunity when education content is emphasized and international competitiveness is promoted. We strive for build a brand-new learning organization, in response to the ever-changing challenges. We should strengthen the disciplinary construction, strengthen the faculty team and optimizing the faculty portfolio, promote internationalization, improve research and leverage education quality, thus to fulfill the new requirement of talents in the current transforming and upgrading economic environment, and to achieve the goal of transformation: from pursuing quantity to quality, from highlighting distinctive features to returning to the mainstream, from focusing only to the domestics to international perspective. We aim to become a domestic first-tier, globally well-known business school that featured in energy economy and management with significant influence.   

When we are celebrating our 60th anniversary in 2016, we are also expecting the new chapter. As the dean of the school of business administration, I sincerely invite you, people with lofty ideals to join us. Let’s work together to witness and realize the glory and dream of becoming a top business school.
