IMFTF Keynote Meeting 8 – Mitigation of Corrosion in Stratified Water-Oil-Gas Multiphase Flow

At 21:00 on January 28, 2022 Beijing time, the Worldwide Energy University Network held its eighth keynote report through an online conference. This conference was organized by the International Multiphase Flow Technology Forum.

The speaker is Associate Professor Eduardo Pereyra, majoring in petroleum engineering, University of Tulsa, USA. The theme is "Mitigation of Corrosion in Stratified Water-Oil-Gas Multiphase Flow". Hosted by Professor Cem Sarica from the University of Tulsa, more than 40 experts, scholars and graduate students from 8 countries and regions around the world participated in this academic salon.

At the beginning of the meeting, Prof. Cem Sarica first introduced the academic background and professional expertise of Associate Prof. Eduardo Pereyra. Associate Professor Eduardo Pereyra has long been engaged in the research of fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, multiphase flow, numerical simulation, experimental technology, etc. In recent years, he has done a lot of work in multiphase flow and corrosion.

In the keynote speech, Associate Professor Eduardo Pereyra listed the causes of corrosion of oil and gas pipelines, and expounded the important influence of oil-gas-water multiphase flow manifold changes on chemical corrosion. Associate Professor Eduardo Pereyra introduced the current experimental platform for oil-gas-water mixed pipeline flow, which can realize real-time observation of manifold changes through high-speed camera technology, and measure corrosion resistance based on self-made conductive pins. A series of experimental results show that the increase of the mixed gas velocity promotes the mixing and diffusion of multiple phases to a certain extent, and the wetting rate of the water phase at the bottom of the pipeline decreases, thereby weakening the corrosion effect. In addition, based on the current experimental results, Associate Professor Eduardo Pereyra also established a complete liquid phase wetting model. The results are in good agreement with the measured values, which can predict the gas-liquid two-phase manifold. The report is in-depth and simple, with rich and vivid content, and the audience gained a more comprehensive understanding of the important role of multiphase pipe flow on corrosion. Unknowingly, the 60-minute report was over, and then was the questioning session. The enthusiastic audience raised questions enthusiastically, and Eduardo Pereyra answered them in detail. The report meeting ended successfully in 30 minutes of lively discussion.

Up to now, the members of the IMFTF committee come from 13 famous universities in 7 countries around the world.
