From March 1 to 6, a delegation of faculty and students from China University of Petroleum, Beijing (CUP) visited Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (HUMG) in Vietnam for a six-day geological winter camp.

HUMG held a welcoming ceremony for the delegation, introducing the university’s distinctive features and research strengths in geological exploration, mineral resources, and ecological protection. Both sides expressed the hope that the winter camp would serve as a bridge to deepen cooperation in talent cultivation, academic research and field-based teaching, while building a high-quality platform for exchanges between Chinese and Vietnamese youth.

The winter camp focused on geological fieldwork, academic exchange, and cultural mutual learning. The delegation conducted field investigations at Lang Son Geopark and carried out geological surveys in the Beishan area, Youlong Ancient Sea, Donglin Lake, Nalai Peak, and Nanyang Basin, systematically observing geological and geomorphic features and recording rock formations. They also visited the World Natural Heritage site Ha Long Bay to study karst formation mechanisms, deepening understanding of geological evolution and ecological protection through field observation. Then, the delegation visited local cultural villages in Lang Son and explored Hanoi city to learn about Vietnam’s history, culture, and customs. At the closing ceremony, Chinese and Vietnamese youth shared research insights and shew talents, which further enhanced friendship and mutual trust.
HUMG is a leading university in Vietnam’s geological resources sector and a member of the World Energy University Network (WEUN), with significant advantages in geological exploration and energy resource development. This winter camp is a strong initiative for CUP to expand overseas education, enhance students’ professional competence and global perspective, injecting new vitality into youth exchanges and higher education cooperation between China and Vietnam.
