China Petroleum Engineering Design Competition is the best-known competition in the field of Petroleum Engineering in China. The aims of the competition are to enhance the ability of the participants in solving complex engineering problems and to develop their adaptability to environment, technological innovation capability, skills in engineering practice and team spirit by accomplishing a complete petroleum engineering related project in groups. 
The competition started in 2011, presented by China Academic Degrees & Graduate Education Development Center, Chinese National Committee for World Petroleum Council, Chinese Petroleum Society and China Petroleum Education Society, sponsored by China National Petroleum Corporation, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation, China National Offshore Oil Corporation and Schlumberger, and hosted by China University of Petroleum-Beijing. The primary target participants are postgraduates from full-time colleges and research institutions. Undergraduates and junior college students are also encouraged to take part.
The 7th China Petroleum Engineering Design Competition held in 2017 attracted 2295 teams from 58 universities and academic institutions both at home and abroad. A total of 1161 effective entries were submitted, and 62 were selected for the finals---on-site Q&A. The 8th China Petroleum Engineering Design Competition begins on March 5th, 2018.
