Chinese Government Scholarship

Scholarship introduction

In order to promote the mutual understanding, cooperation and exchanges in various fields between China and other countries, the Chinese government set up a series of scholarship programs under the Chinese Government Scholarship to sponsor international students, teachers and scholars to study and conduct research in Chinese universities. China Scholarship Council (hereinafter referred to as CSC), entrusted by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China (hereinafter referred to as MOE), is responsible for the enrollment and the administration of Chinese Government Scholarship programs.


Scholarship Programs

1. Bilateral Programs (CSC Type A)

The Bilateral Program includes all scholarships established by MOE in accordance with educational exchange agreements or consensus between Chinese government and governments of other countries, institutions, universities, or international organizations.

Where to Apply

Apply to the dispatching authorities of your home country (Usually the Chinese Embassy in your country or the Relevant education ministries in your country).

When to Apply

You need to apply between early January and early March. Please consult the dispatching authorities in your country for the specific deadline of each year.

Eligibility

I.Applicants must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China and be in good health.

The requirements for applicants’ degree and age are that applicants must:

II.be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for the undergraduate programs.

III.be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for the master’s programs.

IV.be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for the doctoral programs.

V.be under the age of 45 and have a high school diploma (or higher) when applying for the general scholar programs.

VI.be a master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for the senior scholar programs.

Application Procedure

Step 1 - Apply to China University of Petroleum-Beijing for the Pre-admission Letter which will use while submitting your application in your country. (No application fee is required to get a Pre-Admission letter for Type-A applications.)

Step 2 - Apply to the dispatching authorities for overseas study of your home country for CGS opportunity and submit your application in the CSC system. (The Agency number will be given by the dispatching authority.) http://www.csc.edu.cn/studyinchina

Step 4 - Submit all your application documents to the dispatching authorities of your home country before the deadline.

Available University Chinese Government Scholarship Programs:


1.Chinese Government Scholarship, ‘Silk Road’ program


Eligibility Criteria:

I.Applicants must be nationals of countries that belong to the ‘One Belt One Road’ initiative:

II. Bachelor’s applicants should have a minimum Chinese Proficiency of HSK 3(180) to be eligible to apply, Master’s and Ph.D. applicants for Chinese taught programs must have at least HSK 4 (180) to be eligible to apply, those with the minimum required Chinese language proficiency but do not meet language requirements for direct major entry will be given one-year Chinese Language study.

III. The requirement to go directly into major study without Chinese Language study is HSK 4(222) for Bachelor students

IV.The requirement to go directly into major study without Chinese Language study is for Chinese taught masters and Ph.D. studies is HSK 5(180)

V. Masters and Ph.D. applicants for English taught programs must have at least IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 80 or an official letter from their former university indicating English as the teaching language if they had their previous study conducted in English for at least 2 years.

2.Chinese Government scholarship through Chinese Universities-Postgraduate Program


Eligibility Criteria:

I.This program is open to all nationalities

II.Applicants must be applying for the master’s or Ph.D. level

III.Applicants must not have finished their previous study within China, or it has been at least a year since they completed their previous study if it was completed in China.

IV.Master’s and Ph.D. applicants for Chinese taught programs must have HSK 5(180) to apply directly for major study, otherwise they will be required to do one year of Chinese language study

V.Masters and Ph.D. applicants for English taught programs must have at least IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 80 or an official letter from their former university indicating English as the teaching language if they had their previous study conducted in English for at least 2 years.

3.Chinese Government Scholarship (China - Africa Friendship Program)


Eligibility Criteria:

I.This program is open to only applicants from African countries

II.Applicants must be applying for the master’s or Ph.D. level

III.Master’s and Ph.D. applicants for Chinese taught programs must have HSK 5(180)

V.Masters and Ph.D. applicants for English taught programs must have at least IELTS 6.5, TOEFL 80 or an official letter from their former university indicating English as the teaching language if they had their previous study conducted in English for at least 2 years.

4.China Government Scholarship Shanghai Cooperation Organization University Program


Eligibility Criteria:

I.This program is open to applicants from partner universities that also belong to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization University

II.The scholarship supports exchange study at CUP for either a semester or an academic year.

SCHOLARSHIP COVERAGE

1.Full Scholarship covers

I.Tuition waiver.

II.Accommodation provided (Double Room)If students choose to live off campus, the university will provide monthly/quarterly accommodation subsidy:

Undergraduate students (Language preparation), Master’s students (general scholars): CNY 700 per month. Doctoral students (senior scholars): CNY 1000 per month.

III.Stipend:

Undergraduate students: CNY 2,500 per month.

Master’s students/general scholars: CNY 3,000 per month.

Doctoral students/senior scholars: CNY 3,500 per month.


2. Partial scholarship covers

One or some items of the full scholarship (These will be indicated on the admission notice).
